We scheduled our stay late in the day after missing a flight back to the US. Luckily for us, we located the Umberto House, which only had one room available. The gentleman at the front desk was fabulous. He was a wealth of knowledge that helped us negotiate Catania better. He claimed that his English was poor but we were able to communicate with him without any trouble. The breakfast, which is included, was very nice and included coffee(s), teas, juice, water, assorted pastries, meats, cheeses, hard boiled eggs,…I’m certain that I’m leaving things out but I trust that you understand that there were many options. The Umberto House is located in a perfect area that allows for easy walking to anything that you will want to do….shopping, eating establishments, gelato, granita, pastries, pizza and a lot of other fine dining restaurants. The Umberto house has a shuttle but we had to leave early (4:30 a.m.) to go to the airport. The shuttle was not operating at that time so they arranged for a taxi to pick us up. The taxi was on time and only cost us $25 euro to the airport. The shuttle was the same price. In closing, you cannot got wrong by choosing to stay at the Umberto House . All of the staff were so welcoming and helpful. Communication was superb from well before we arrived. We were able to store two suitcases for 5 days while we toured Sicily which made our medium sized hire car more manageable for 4 people. Thank you Antoine who assisted so kindly. The charming gentleman on reception in the evening gave us a great suggestion for a nearby family run seafood restaurant and he was nice to talk to (English) when we took the E25 shuttle to the airport. The breakfast was amazing with eggs, toast, ham, cheese, cereals, cappuccino or latte. Many thanks especially to the lovely girl in the breakfast room -so kind and welcoming. The room was absolutely beautiful in traditional style, high ceilings and gorgeous patterned tile floor.

I really liked the location, downtown but very quiet inside. We had a beautiful little balcony! Hotel is close to a beautiful little restaurant district! Was easy access and convenient. Hotel staff arranged a taxi to the airport for me and my sister on the morning of our departure. Hotel breakfast was outstanding! Loved the little outside courtyard to eat our breakfast in. The freshly made espresso was delicious and appreciated. Very nice lady working the breakfast counter. Hotel staff were super friendly!

Most amazaing staff! Special thanks to Antoine who made sure we had a warm welcome and comfortable stay! The rooms are very clean and spaceous. The hotel is in an ancient Palazzo on the second floor. There is a beautiful patio in the courtyars where you can enjoy the italian breakfast (good coffee!). The location is very central, you are close to both the main shopping street as well as the main sights of Catania. Everything can be reached by foot in 15min. Public parking is available on the side streets.
